Our Classes - Lower Primary

Meet the Teacher - Mrs Kathryn James

From a young age, I had always wanted to be a schoolteacher. I began teaching in Kindergarten department, alongside Mrs. Leys, in 1994.  A few years later, I became the leading teacher in the Lower Primary department (Years 1 & 2).

My family and I had made Condell Park Bible Church our spiritual home in 1985, and in 1994, the Lord opened the door for me to begin teaching at CPCS.  Whilst I didn’t have formal educational qualifications at the time, I was aware of the teaching gifts God had given me.  After some time, I returned to study and gained my Bachelor of Education in 2011.

I am currently studying a Graduate Certificate of Learning Difficulties Support Teaching at Macquarie University in order to meet the needs of students who are experiencing difficulties with their learning.

Teaching younger children can be challenging at times, but by the grace of God, it is also very rewarding.  It is a blessing to guide these younger students through their early years of schooling.

 About Lower Primary

The Lower Primary department is a composite class of Years 1 and 2.  It is a class that reviews and builds upon the skills that are taught in Kindergarten.

Our students are taught their English skills mainly through a new program called ‘InitiaLit’.  It is a phonics based system, with its beginnings coming from research at Macquarie University.  It is a program that produces excellent outcomes.

All other subjects include Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Music, Visual Arts, Sport and Bible Devotions.  It is our goal to teach all of the subjects with a biblical worldview and present the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the children.
